L’ACQUEDOTTO ROMANO DI BAGNOLI

Sommario Durante la ristrutturazione di un edificio pubblico a Trieste è stato rinvenuto, a seguito dello scavo delle fondamenta per la sua consolidazione, un tratto di canale sotterraneo. Il Club Alpinistico Triestino ha provveduto all’immediata esplorazione dell’ipogeo. Dagli studi effettuati è emerso che il canale appartiene ad un tratto – tra l’altro già segnalato nel XIX e XX secolo – di un acquedotto che dal I sec. d. C. forniva d’acqua la città romana di Tergeste (Trieste). Il presente lavoro pone l’accento sulla conoscenza, allo stato attuale, del percorso ipogeo dell’acquedotto, desunta da studi storici e le caratteristiche che lo contraddistinguono.
Abstract During renovation of a public building in Trieste, after digging out the foundations for reinforcement purposes, a segment of an underground channel was found. The Club Alpinistico Triestino immediately explored this hypogeum, concluding that the channel belonged to an aqueduct which, in the I century A.D. supplied water to the roman town of Tergeste (Trieste), as already indicated in the XIX and XX century. This work lays a stress upon the actual knowledge on the subterranean course of the aqueduct, based on historical studies and the peculiarities which distinguish it.
